Copy paper vs Glossy photo paper: is there really a difference?

Glossy photo paper

Instead of absorbing ink deep into the paper, the coated surface keeps the ink closer to the top, allowing colours to appear brighter and details much sharper.

Compared with copy paper, you'll usually notice:

  • Richer, more vibrant colours
  • Sharper detail

  • A smooth, professional-looking finish

The difference is often much greater than people expect.

Looking at the two prints side by side, you can immediately see the difference.

On the copy paper, the colours appear muted and the image looks softer overall.

The glossy photo paper produces deeper blacks, brighter colours and much finer detail, giving the image far more impact.

When you're printing photographs, greeting cards, marketing materials or photo magnets, using the right paper can make just as much difference as using a good printer.

Is glossy photo paper worth it?

For everyday documents, copy paper is still the right choice.

But if you're printing something you want to keep, frame, gift or sell, investing in quality photo paper makes a noticeable difference.
